Articulate Engage can benefit an online course tremendously.  Sometimes it is difficult for students to learn/understand content that is presented soley through written print, so a verbal demonstration can sometimes clear up confusion.  Also, many students do not have the time or discipline to sit and read hours of text to understand a concept, and a short presentation through Articulate Engage could help to summarize the information.  Also, with Articulate Engage, students can verbally interact and ask questions to their professor or other students.

Where do you add feedback for an answer to a question?

Using the “Form View” or “Slide View” enter your question, answer choices, and correct answer, then scroll to the bottom.  You can use the default feedback, or by choosing the box on the right, you’re able to manually enter your own personal feedback, and even add audio.  The point value of the questions can be changed  by clicking in the point value box.  If you choose to give no feedback, you can choose to do so from the toolbar.

The technical standards for e-learning software products are referred to as SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model). SCORM’s standards help programmers code their software so that they will be compatible with other e-learning software. 

When is SCORM a good fit for your company?

• You need to store a big amount of files
• You use LMS to distribute knowledge

AICC “(Aviation Industry CBT (Computer-Based Training) Committee) is an international association of tecnolofy training professionals.”  The AICC creates guidelines for technology based training materials and modules.

 In my opinion, there are many benefits of having a set of standards for the development of e-Learning.  For example, because there are so many training modules available, it is good to have a set of standards so that all of the training modules can work together.

Adobe Captivate 4 software is a software tool used with eLearning.  Adobe Captivate allows people to “create powerful and engaging simulations, software demonstrations, scenario-based training, and quizzes without programming or multimedia skills.”Adobe Captivate is a product derived from Adobe Flash and is compatible with Adobe Acrobat as well.

Who should use Adobe Captivate?

Teachers, trainers in business settings, or anyone who has a need for interactive tools or demonstrations.

In the context of eLearning, interaction is a learning activity where and individual is presented with a problem or scenario and must work to achieve a goal.  Interactions should be planned to keep the learner’s attention.

 Interactions are necessary in eLearnings because they keep the learner focused and help them to retain the knowledge presented to them through the eLearning program.  Interactions should help to grab the learners attention and stimulate their minds during the activity.

The 4 levels of interaction include:

1. Passive – the learner simply reads through the material presented
2. Limited Interaction - similar to Passive, but the learner may also be given interative animations or other capabilities to access the information more in depth
3. Complex Interaction – more engagement is required. The learner may be expected to fill in text entry boxes or use scenario based logic where the learner would raceive feedback for correct or incorrect responses.
4. Real-Time Interaction – the learner is engaged in a life-like situation and can also be subject to an assesment.

Wikis can be great for organizations because it can be a common ground for the entire organization, or specific departments.  Many companies have opted to have a wiki for each department where they store spreadsheets, Power Point slides, Word documents, PDFs, etc.  These wikis can have security settings so that not anyone can make edits.

An organization should consider using wiki when it wants to have a publicly accessible (by the company’s employees) location of many documents and information.  An organization should avoid using wiki if you don’t have a staff member who can be responsible for the site.  Also, wiki cannot support all file formats.  Finally, organizations should know that wiki isn’t appropriate for group working – wikis aren’t to be used for carrying on conversations, etc.

Wiki vs. Traditional Content Management Software Wikis are very inexpensive in comparison to traditional content management software.  Also, they are user-friendly and do not require the use of external software.  Wikis do not require much user-training/learning and can be setup to the users liking rather than a generic manufacturer setting.  Finally, wikis allow collaboration by all individuals involved.

Best Practices for Adopting a Wiki Within an Organization:

• Find a technology solution that fits the employee group as a whole
• Begin the process of introduction by using a targeted release
• Ensure the technology platform is stable, compatible with pre-existing technologies and if required secure.
• Engage the user group in the early stages of implementation with formal and informal training on the usage of wiki.
• Explain the benefits and reasons for adaptation.
• Upon release of the tool, set targets for usage.

Synchronouslearning requires simultaneous participation of all learners involved.  For synchronous learning, all learners work together  in real time.  Asynchronous learning allows learning to collaborate at different times of each other.

e-Learning provides many benefits such as time flexibility, cost, collaboration with other learners, unlimited access to learning documents, etc.

Knowledge Management helps to control what knowledge is available based on importance and authenticity.
